Waiting Lists
If St Wilfrid’s is oversubscribed and your child has not been offered a place, you can ask for their name to be added to the waiting list.
Waiting lists are organised according to the school’s published admissions (oversubscription) criteria. Unfortunately, being on the waiting list does not guarantee that a place will become available. You also still have the right to appeal the decision not to offer your child a place.
Each time a child is added to the waiting list, it is re-ranked in line with the admissions criteria. This means your child’s position may move up or down, regardless of how long they have been on the list. All children are considered fairly and consistently using the same criteria.
If a place becomes available, the Local Authority (LA) will send you a formal offer letter. You will need to accept or decline the place in writing within the deadline stated in the letter. If a place is declined, your child’s name will be removed from the waiting list.
Please note that the school must also admit children who are allocated a place through the Local Authority’s Fair Access Protocol. These children are given priority over those already on the waiting list.
Year 7 Waiting List
If your child is in Year 6 and was not offered a Year 7 place at St Wilfrid’s for September (based on your original school preferences), Surrey County Council will automatically place your child on the waiting list.
We are unable to provide waiting list positions by phone or email until after the acceptance deadline has passed. At the end of March, you will receive a letter confirming your child’s current position on the waiting list.
If your child has been offered a school that you ranked higher than St Wilfrid’s, but you would now like to be added (or re-added) to our waiting list, you will need to contact West Sussex County Council directly in writing to request this.
The Year 7 waiting list will remain open until the end of the academic year for which you applied. If you would like your child to remain on the waiting list beyond that point, please contact the school via email before the end of the academic year.

Waiting Lists for Years 8–11
If you are applying for a place in Years 8–11, please refer to the “In-Year Admissions” section and complete the school’s Supplementary Information Form. This is required before your child can be added to the waiting list.
If a place is not available due to oversubscription, your child’s name will be added to a waiting list. The list is ordered according to the admissions criteria and is reviewed each time a new child is added.
Waiting lists for Years 8–11 are held until the end of the academic year. If you would like your child to remain on the list after this time, please contact the school in writing at the end of the academic year.
As with Year 7, if a place is offered and declined, your child’s name will be removed from the waiting list.
