BTEC Creative Digital Media Production
The BTEC Pearson Excel course in Creative Digital Media Production is perfect if your ambition is to work in the media or the creative industries, covering units such as film editing, sound editing, digital photography and advertising production.
You will develop a broad understanding of creative media whilst building on specialist areas of interest, for example genres of your choice. The course will ensure that you start building the technical skills, knowledge and understanding relevant to working in the evolving, fast moving and exacting media industry. The units also provide a unique insight into employment opportunities, job requirements, and working practices needed to compete in a competitive industry and how to follow industry processes, such as how to respond to a brief and analysis of media representations. You will learn how to research, plan, pitch and produce media projects, for example a film extract of a genre of your choice.

This course is the equivalent to one A Level.
It has four units:

Unit 10: | Film Production - Fiction (Internal Assessment) |
In Year One you will study:
- Unit 10: Film Production Fiction
- Unit 4: Pre-Production Portfolio (both internally assessed) and
- Unit 1: Media Representations, an externally assessed unit.
In Year Two you will study:
- Unit 8: Responding to a Commission, an externally assessed unit where you research and plan a product in response to a commission, for example a promotional or viral video.

Unit 1 is an external screen-based exam. Unit 4 and Unit 10 are marked internally at the end of Year One. Unit 8 is externally assessed in Year two.
Am I right for the course?
The course requires you to work independently, conduct research, follow industry protocols and demonstrate creativity and practical skills. As part of the course is course work-based, organisation including time-management, is an essential skill. This skill would be required if working in the industry.
