St Wilfrid's Catholic School

Our Keystage 3 students completed a Sponsored Marathon today raising an amazing £470 for our two charities, Crawley Open House and The Mark Lay Foundation.

On April 2nd 2019,  our five houses participated in a marathon style event, whereby students in Key Stage 3 had the opportunity to sign up to run a mile for their house whilst supporting the two school charities, The Mark Lay Foundation and Crawley Open House.

In cold conditions, the teachers got the marathon underway with Mr Waterman of Catherine House producing a marvellous run to open up an initial gap on Mr Middleditch’s Francis House. However, this is a marathon and not a sprint so students took over and Benedict House led by Miss Donnelly took the reigns and opened up a large gap as the race progressed to win in 1hr 32 mins with Amaia Vincent-Lopez bringing the team home. Catherine and Francis were neck and neck going into their final runner as Ethan Woodhead © and Bradley De Jesus (F) raced to the finish with Francis coming 2nd in 1hr 40.20 mins, Catherine 3rd just 2 seconds behind. Dominic finished in 4th with 1hr 42 and Augustine finished 5th in 1hr 43.

Thank you to our fantastic Year 12 students and Year 10  GCSE PE students who helped to marshal the race and ensure each participant ran in the correct order.

Congratulations to all those involved and a big thank you to the PE department for organising such a fantastic event!
