“I Have come that you might have life and have it to the full” (John 10.10)

Overview
PSHE
informs and educates our students about personal, social, health and economic issues with the purpose of developing autonomous, decision-making individuals who will be prepared for the future in a rapidly changing world. It helps young people to grow and develop as individuals and as community members. It equips them with knowledge, understanding and practical skills, in order to live healthy, safe, fulfilled and responsible lives. In short PSHE makes a significant contribution to our young people’s personal, spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. Our versatile modular programme provides opportunity for the enhancement of Life Skills. Particular emphasis is given to promoting the safety of our students and helping them to be able to assess risks. We consider PSHE to be “Education for Safeguarding”. Our scheme of work is delivered in 35-minute slots by tutors every Wednesday morning and is made up of three important strands:

  1. Health & Wellbeing
  2. Living in the Wider World
  3. Relationships

RSHE:
You may be aware that the government has made “Relationships and Sex and Health Education” a statutory part of the curriculum from July 2021. Please click  here to read the Governments information to parents.

We welcome the Government’s decision to make RSHE statutory. At St Wilfrid’s we are confident that we can comply with the Statutory Guidance whilst adhering to the principles of our faith. Our new schemes of work are designed to teach RSE in accordance with the Church’s moral teaching while at the same time providing information so that students can be informed and educated. We feel strongly about our duties in delivering robust, and well balanced RSE within a Catholic Context. As such, we divide the delivery of RSE content between three curriculum areas: PSHE, RE and Science. For more information please look at the relevant curriculum pages. Parents and Carers are the first educators of their children and as such parents will also be engaged ahead of RSE units of the teaching within RE (this is where the bulk of RSE takes place, whilst supported by the PSHE & Science schemes of work).
