Year 9 6-a-Side Football Champions
of Mid and North Sussex
The Year 9 girls football team went down to Billingshurst on Thursday to defend the Mid and North Sussex Area trophy they won in Year 8. They were also looking to qualify for the County 6-a-side tournament.
The girls had a tough start against a strong Weald school but a Molly Carpenter goal saw us win 1-0. Warden Park School were next where we held out for a 0-0 draw. The favourites, Tanbridge House, were up next and we composed ourselves well and won 3-0 with a hat trick from Molly. Then we had to beat Ifield to win the league which we did convincingly with goals from Fleur Neau Gaterell and Shannon Pym.
A fantastic team performance from all the players to retain the title and qualify for the County finals. Congratulations Girls!
At the county finals we started off playing Tanbridge House School again after they came top Mid Sussex team in the Area competition. Unfortunately we could not get into the groove and lost 1-0 to a breakaway goal. We then played Littlehampton Academy who we drew with 0-0. Against Bognor School we looked scared playing against girls who were nearly 6ft tall and in the end we lost 1-0 which meant we were left to play Warden Park School in the last game of the group stage. Molly Carpenter scored meaning we finally got a win which left us with a 7/8th place play off versus St Richards School in East Sussex.
Shannon Pym scored in this game where we were convincing winners 1-0. However a disappointing County tournament but the girls had learned a lot from the experience.

The team consists of Laura Hennessey, Abby Bird Belli, Alicia Constable, Simona Volpe, Shannon Pym, Fleur Neau Gaterell, Emily Osbourne and
