St Wilfrid’s Present

Little Shop of Horrors

Hot on the heels from the outstanding success of its last production, Godspell, St Wilfrid’s is proud to present Little Shop of Horrors.

The production of Little Shop of Horrors is a rock musical by composer Alan Menken and writer Howard Ashman, about a hapless florist shop worker who raises a plant that feeds on human blood. The musical is based on the low-budget 1960 black comedy film The Little Shop of Horrors,  composed by Menken in the style of early 1960s rock and roll, doo-wop and early Motown, includes several show-stoppers including "Skid Row (Downtown)", "Somewhere That's Green", and "Suddenly, Seymour", as well as the title song.

The cast consists of 40 students from Years 7 to 12. The lead role of Seymour is played by Craig Brown and the role of Audrey is played by Maggie Hunt and the cast are supported by a live band. Staff and students have been working really hard and have already performed a short montage from the production at The Mayor’s Ball at The Hawth on Saturday 23rd January 2010.  The audience reaction was fantastic with one guest commenting, “The performance was amazing, and we are definitely booking tickets for the full performance in March!”

This year’s production promises to be fantastic and as last year’s production sold out it would be wise to book tickets as soon as possible.  The performance runs for three nights from Thursday 18th March until Saturday 20th March 2010.  Tickets are priced at £7 for adults and £5 for concessions and are available from Diane Brill in the office on 01293 421421.

Our last production, ‘Godspell’, was a great success and received some excellent reviews:

“The work needed to bring to bring young people up to such a high standard reflects dedication over and above the norm.” Bob Burgess (Crawley Festival)

“...the work you have all put into the show at school really shone through in the professionalism and enthusiasm of the performance.” Tony Witton (Crawley Festival - Main Stage)

“Following the performance of Godspell, St Wilfrid’s reputation for top quality performances will grow. I cannot say how much I really enjoyed this performance. It was wonderful, incredible and so exciting. What talented young people you have.” CLLR Brenda Burgess (Mayor of Crawley)
