St Wilfrid's make another National Football Achievement

We sent two 5-a-side football teams to K2 to try their hand at futebal de salou which is a style of indoor football that the Brazilian's learn from when they are young. It uses a size two weighted football and requires better control of the ball throughout a game at a fast pace.
Both the 'A' team and the 'B' teams began well in the tournament winning their opening games. 'A' beating Haywards Heath 5-0 (Rivers 4, Wood 1) whilst the 'B' team beat Central Sussex 1-0 (Benton). The 'A' team then drew with the Weald and with Central Sussex 'A' in heavily contested encounters 0-0 meaning they had to win their final two games to go through. The 'B' team drew with Central Sussex 'A' and beat Haywards Heath 4-1.
St Wilfrid's 'A' team had to play the 'B' team and convincingly beat them 3-0 (Cardon, White, Rivers) meaning that both teams had to win their final game to finish 1st and 2nd in the league and contest the final. Unfortunately the 'B's' lost 1-0 to the Weald but the 'A' team beat Central Sussex 'B' 1-0 to go through.
A heated final against Central Sussex 'A' was on the cards with St Wilfrid's only needing a draw to go through because they had finished top of the league. Tim Rivers however scored towards the end of the game to give us a 1-0 win meaning that we had qualified for the National Finals to be held in Leeds.
A fantastic achievement in their first outing at this format without Jordan Hall conceding a goal.

The student's named above (with the exception of Jordan Hall) have all been part of a successful squad throughout the years at St Wilfrid's winning the Area cup on three occasions (2005/2006/2007) and The County Cup (2005). The majority were part of a winning District Team Cup Side (2006). The team also qualified from a regional Playstation 5-a-side tournament to come joint 5th in the National Finals (2007). In 2009 they made the 11-a-side Schools National Quarter Finals and have now qualified for another National Tournament in 2010.
