Greenway Charity Walk
Wed July 16th 2008
We met at Broadfield Stadium at 08.30 ready to start the 15
mile circular walk around the outskirts of Crawley. The agreed charity was the
National Society for the Protection of Cruelty to Children. We had already had a
visit from a speaker outlining their work. As part of the commitment to the walk
each student had to produce an up-front payment of £5 each.
Eventually we hope to collect about £100 in sponsorship, and
then go and see the local NSPCC nursery. The actual walk went well despite the
heat. Certain boys thought they would run some of the way with the intention of
breaking the record of 3 hours 45 mins. But after going wrong a few times they
settled for a walking pace and all students returned to the stadium before 3pm.
All were tired but really pleased with themselves for
accomplishing such a challenge. This was the 5th year that this event
has been staged and the most successful yet in terms of enjoyment and group
completion. Despite my help with touring around in the minibus very few got
lost, none were too miserable and all smiled at the finishing line!
