St Wilfrid's Students Win Mathematics Awards
Once again St Wilfrids students have participated in the United Kingdom
Mathematics Challenge.
The competition encourages mathematical reasoning, precision and fluency in
using basic mathematical techniques to solve non-standard problems. The
competition is targeted at the top year 7 and 8 students of English schools.
These problems are designed to make students think and even smile.
Most problems are accessible to younger students yet challenge those with more
experience. The event is also meant to be enjoyable and memorable. The aim of
the UK Junior Maths Challenge is to encourage and stimulate large numbers of
able youngsters who enjoy both the challenge that
mathematical problems pose as well as taking part in a national event.
Gold Certificates were awarded to Kayleigh in Year 8 and Cameron and
George in year 7; George was also awarded the best in
school certificate.
Silver certificates went to Tom, Anya, Adam and Jacob, with bronze going to Daniel, Rachel, Aoshua,
Ryan and Laura.
Once again our students can be proud of their success. Year 7 students will have the
opportunity to enter again in 2009 and use this experience to achieve even
greater success.
