Medal Winning Mathematicians at St Wilfrid's!
Heartfelt congratulations to our four mathematical stars who
came second out of twenty-four schools in this year’s West Sussex Mathematics
Competition. Four Year 9 students, beat in-school trials to
make the Grand Final, held at the North East Area Professional Centre on the 3rd
July 2008.
It was a close run thing in the morning, with the St
Wilfrid’s team in first place through the first three sessions, which included
Count Down, Problem-Solving and Practical Maths Puzzles. Although they slipped into second
place in the last two sessions, Mrs Garcia-Troy, Business and Enterprise
Coordinator for Maths, was proud of the team’s attitude, “It was a really long
day, but the students kept their enthusiasm up.”
Holly Myers, Business and Enterprise Manager at ST Wilfrid’s agrees, “I’m
very pleased with how well they’ve done.
Maths is one of our specialist subjects, and I think they’ve proven not
only their excellent math skills, but also their positive approach to
challenges. What could be more
important?”.
It goes without saying
that Conor, Rory, Kuba and Tom deserve our congratulations, but Mrs Garcia-Troy
says it anyway, “They were phenomenal!”.
