The Colour Works' profile turns out to be scarily accurate!

The 11th June saw the second session of The Colour Works’ with our Lower Sixth Form students.  Staff joined in as Ian MacKnight encouraged self analysis of personality preferences.  Ian showed that understanding and making the most of our behavioural inclinations when approaching tasks was fundamentally important in finding a successful career or further study.

Also explored were the various strengths of the different personality types, and how to work more effectively with those who have a different style of doing things.  A valuable activity in teamwork showed what happened when cooperation or leadership was lacking, when groups of students tried to lower bamboo canes with just their fingers – much harder than it sounds.  Ian congratulated the students on completing the task much quicker than many business customers however!

Team Work

After a contemplative look at different working, living and social preferences, each student received a personalised bound profile.  This was a full colour profile based on the answers each student gave in the first Colour Works session in April this year.  Packed full of information to help look at their own partialities, they were described by students as “scarily accurate!” and some were surprised to have aspects of their personalities they hadn’t thought of revealed by the profile.  “Now I see it written down, I think it’s true, but I didn’t realise it before,” commented one fascinated sixth former.

The response to The Colour Works session was overwhelmingly positive.  “I can’t thank Ian enough for his excellent session,” says Business and Community Manager Holly Myers, “The profiles will be invaluable in writing personal statements for university applications, but certainly go beyond that in helping students understand why they do well at some things, and how to apply themselves in ways that best suits their talents.”
