St Wilfrid's Students face 3 peaks challenge
A team of students and staff from St Wilfrid’s School, Crawley will be attempting to climb the
3 highest mountains in Wales, England and Scotland: Mt. Snowdon, Scafell Pike
and Ben Nevis. And if that wasn’t
hard enough, they will be doing it in one weekend.
On the weekend of 21st/22nd June, the team will begin the challenge by
ascending Mt Snowdon via the Pyg Track. They will start their ascent at 4am.
Once completed they will get straight on the mini bus and travel to Wasdale in
the Lake District where they will climb Scafell Pike starting mid afternoon and
finishing early evening. Then off to Fort
William
on the West Coast of Scotland for the final part of the challenge – Ben Nevis
which at 4408 ft. is the highest mountain in Britain.
This particular challenge will not only test the team’s physical attributes but it will be a
severe test mentally. The team have been in training both physically and in
developing the navigational skills which will be required.
The reason behind this incredible challenge is to raise money for St Wilfrid’s New School
Chapel and Partnership Learning Centre.
In an age when young people are often pilloried, with many negative
stories appearing in the media, these young people have made a commitment to put
something back into society. These students wish to ensure that future students
of St Wilfrid’s school have some of the same opportunities as they have had.
Please contact Sarah Gildea at St Wilfrid’s Catholic School if you would like to sponsor the
team on their challenge or could donate equipment for their trip.
