The Colour Works Highlight Students Strengths
In April
Ian MacKnight from training company The Colour Works helped Sixth
Form students learn about their working preferences in the first of two sessions
aimed at providing a personalised psychological
profile using the unique Insights Discovery System.
“I usually
do this kind of work with businesses, but it makes complete sense to extend it
into the education sector,” said Ian.
“St Wilfrid's is providing the Year 12 students with a tremendous
opportunity to learn how their personal style of behaviour impacts on their
relationships with others and how they might develop to improve their
effectiveness. It was a great
session today, really – things couldn't have gone smoother.”
Students
agree, “The program was very helpful because it can be difficult to write
positive things about yourself,” one commented, “the words given in the test
made the system easy to use and pinned you down to thinking up an accurate
description of your strengths.”
Ann
Connolly, Head of Psychology at St Wilfrid’s, felt this was an invaluable
opportunity for the students.
“The Colour
Works use a highly regarded psychometric test used widely in business,” said
Ann. “With Year 12 facing imminent UCAS and job applications, the test will
allow students to be objective observers of their own behaviour and see the
strengths and weaknesses in their approach to life and work. ”
Having
completed the evaluator, the students will have a two hour workshop with Ian in
June to learn how their profiles can help them study, complete UCAS forms,
prepare for interviews and make the
most of their own particular talents when they begin work.
